Spring Onions

Wednesday was damp and cloudy my favorite time to work in the garden. I cleaned out an area where I usually plant basil and planted an assortment of onions instead.

Ready to plant.

Red, yellow, and white onions.

My back garden needs serious weeding.  Yesterday, in the midst of garden guilt, I was reminded by HolleyGarden at Roses and Other Gardening Joys that no garden is without weeds.

I've decided not to knock myself out trying to have a perfect garden (I learned long ago that perfection is highly overrated).  I'll just do a better job of editing my pictures so you (and I) won't notice all the weeds.

In my back garden on Wednesday - Salvia greggii, rose bush,
blueberry bushes...  one of my bird baths, the daffodils and more roses...
then my neighbor's very neat and tidy garden plot.

Almost perfect are the gardens at The House in the Roses.  CIELO's blog has a fairy tale look and Tuesday's post, reminding me of The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, inspired me to get into my garden to plant the onions... and a few more cilantro seeds... and marigold and nasturtium... once I start gardening, it's hard to stop.

I keep my favorite seeds handy and tuck them in when the mood strikes.

My favorite garden tool is at least twenty years old.  Its familiar wooden handle makes me smile as I work in my garden, not because it's perfect but because we've been together such a long time.

Is it vintage?  I'm not sure, but let me tell you I feel a bit vintage after a few of hours working in the garden.

Thank God for long, hot showers and mugs of tea.

I'm joining Suzanne at ColoradoLady for Vintage Thingy Thursday,
even if my little garden tool isn't vintage, I'm sure the dirt is.

You did notice? I said "visit". I don't really like to garden. And, have a minimalist's yard. =)

I so especially enjoy your vintage thingie Thursday posts -- and the way you tend to think outside the box! Gardening in God's good earth is soothing to the soul, I think. We are going to try gardening outside the box with herbs this spring! :)

How fun planting so soon! We travel home in three weeks and will still have to wait another 6 weeks before we even think about it!

There's nothing like digging in dirt for a fun day! Seriously, it's therapy for me. I am dying to get outside and do something! I have an area along a section of my rock wall that works perfect for onions. I have way too much on my plate this week, but hopefully next week I can make it out into the garden. Also, it's been a bit chilly but suppose to warm up over the weekend. looking forward to seeing some pics of your garden. Happy Hoeing!

Good morning c.Joy, I enjoyed your post so much. I didn't think about my vintage garden tools to share. Love to garden and one of my special weeding tools belonged to an Uncle long gone. I love using it because love him so much.

Perfect is way overrated and I strive for the best I can do!!! It works for me.
Have a wonderful day.
Hugs, Jeanne

Loved seeing your garden and lucky you can plant so early. I have good intentions to plant more soft fruits, just bought twelve raspberry canes...my dad always grew them, need to get digging.
Hope everything grows well.
