What's Cooking?

One of the best things about summer is the fresh food.  My favorite summer meals are the ones that come straight from the garden - any garden.

Potatoes & Green Beans

I remember watching my mom 'string' beans before she cooked them.  Now I just wash them, cut them into bite size pieces and put them in the pot.  The new potatoes I washed and neatened up (I leave the skin on but cut away dark spots and anything I don't think looks pretty) and put them on top of the green beans.  I used my little steamer basket - about an inch of water and 1/2 teaspoon salt - and cooked until the potatoes are tender - I poke them with a knife, if it goes into the potato easily - everything is done.

Our meal with beans and potatoes was wonderful.  I put them in a serving bowl added some butter, a little more salt and a dash or two of black pepper, tossed them, then sat the bowl on the table.

So good I forgot to take anymore pictures.

What are you cooking?

Since returning from Africa I've had some Blogger problems and somehow missed those last couple of posts. When this one popped up, with fresh veggies - lovely - I was thrilled to learn you are on the road to recovery after the surgery. Thank goodness!

As you mentioned, perhaps surgery was a way to beat the heat - now you'll be able to enjoy Autumn without pain and hopefully be dancing in the garden in cool temperatures soon.

Take care
Hugs - Mary

P.S. I'm using my steamer lately as we're trying to eat more veggies done this way to cut calories - just good, plain home cooking!

Hi Joy, so healthy and delish, I love eating such fresh organic food steamed and with minimum seasoning so you can really taste it. SO pleased to hear you are on the mend. Love the lizard photo, and think Rodney is a very suitable name for a lizard, but I'm not sure if it suits all lizards ... I wonder what they call us in their language? (lol)
